Weston’s MP welcomes faster, higher capacity trains

John Penrose MP has welcomed news that Weston-super-Mare and other local stations will get faster, higher capacity trains, after speaking personally to the Managing Director of Great Western trains.

Local passengers should start to see a difference during 2018. Bigger carriages and longer trains should mean much less overcrowding, with increased capacity of between 24% (long distance journeys) and 52% (local journeys). Journey times are expected to be shorter too, shaving as much as 15 minutes off a trip to London.

John said: “This will be a huge relief to all of us who use the trains regularly, particularly the peak rush-hour services where overcrowding can be a real problem. We need to give people an attractive alternative to using their cars, particularly if they commute to Bristol. It’s greener, more sustainable, and should help cut jams at Junction 21 of the M5 too.”
