The Sun: TORIES UP FOR CAP

A QUARTER of all Tory MPs will today demand Theresa May delivers on her election promise to cap energy bills.

The 76 say No10 has watered down the pledge by asking regulator Ofgem to come up with a solution to rising bills instead.

Their letter heaps further pressure on the PM ahead of next week’s critical Tory conference.

The group is big enough to inflict a Commons defeat on Mrs May if they join with Labour.

A total 192 MPs from four parties have signed the letter.

It was organised by ex-Tory minister John Penrose and Labour MP Caroline Flint.

Mr Penrose said: “If Ofgem won’t challenge the ‘Big Six’ and stand up for the 17 million consumers on pricey tariffs, the Government should.”
