MP John Penrose praises hard work of mental health charity

Weston-super-Mare’s MP has praised the hard work of a mental health charity which offers guidance and support to people living in North Somerset.

John Penrose visited 1in4, in Oxford Street, and spoke to staff and service users about illnesses such as depression and anxiety.

Mr Penrose said: “Dealing with mental illness is difficult and made harder by the lack of awareness and stigma.

“As with anything, you cannot fight against it if you ignore it or do not know it is there.”

The MP was told one in four people will encounter mental health issues in their lifetime, ranging from eating disorders to compulsive behaviours, depression to panic attacks.

The charity, which was founded in 1981, offers people counselling and group sessions to people aged 16 and older.

1in4 promotes mental wellbeing, empowerment and support to people tackling issues linked with mental health during its sessions.
