MP Welcomes Government Reforms Matching His ‘Build Up, Not Out’ Ideas

Weston’s MP John Penrose has welcomed further reforms of the planning system announced in the Productivity Plan which followed last week’s budget.

He said: “Firstly, these proposals will make it much easier and simpler to regenerate town and city centres by redeveloping brownfield sites – something which everybody wants to do, but which has proved much harder to get underway in practice. But, even more importantly, it starts to allow developers to build ‘up not out’ in places like London where space is at a premium. It will add life to urban centres, create more living spaces within walking distance of shops and social life for young and old alike, and protect green fields from development pressures as well. It’s something I’ve been arguing for years so I’m delighted it’s now Government policy.”
