Weston Mercury: MP John Penrose calls for dental practice wait times to be reduced

A WESTON MP has said that he will keep pushing for NHS dental practice wait times to be brought down to an “acceptable level.”

MP John Penrose shared a video of himself speaking in parliament on Wednesday, October 18.

Mr Penrose’s goal was to urge ministers to reduce wait times and increase the number of dentists taking on new patients.

The NHS website details which practices are accepting new patients.

Speaking to the Weston Mercury, Mr Penrose said: “I was pleased Ministers were able to share a range of things happening to make NHS dentistry more attractive to current dentists and, as a longer-term solution, the Government is increasing the number of dentists in training by over 40% to boost overall capacity.

“All that being said, I will measure results by how many NHS dentists are accepting new NHS patients and by how long local people have to wait for a dental appointment.

“Until that reaches acceptable levels, I will keep pushing those in charge of dental commissioning here in Weston and Government Ministers too.”
