Bristol Live has summarised John’s opening remarks in a recent Hustings event organised by Extinction Rebellion. John said:
“We’re one of the global leaders in decarbonising but it’s not nearly enough.
“We need to go to 100 per cent renewable power in this country as soon as possible. We need to be able to store more energy for when the sun isn’t shining.
“We have just banned fracking – the scientific advice changed.
“Nuclear is becoming incredibly uneconomic. Why would you build incredibly expensive nuclear plants if you can do it with a zero carbon form instead?
“We have to think as a planetary system. We need to help forge an international consensus.
“We’re going to set up an environmental protection agency to make sure emissions and plastics are targeted so we bear down on all forms of environmental pollution.”
