John Welcomes Fresh Government Cash For Weston Town Centre

Weston’s MP John Penrose has welcomed the announcement of £1.7million of investment for Weston’s Sovereign Centre under the Government’s Getting Building Fund.

The money will go to redevelop Weston High Street, repurposing redundant retail space in the Sovereign Centre to deliver workspace for collective trading platforms, entrepreneurs, micro-manufacturing, events and rehearsal, cycle hub, business support, and skills, learning and employability. This will be delivered alongside the Central Weston Primary Care facility.

John said, “Even before coronavirus, high streets across the country were struggling against online stores and out-of-town shopping malls, and Weston is no exception. This investment should create new jobs, reducing the need for commuting, broaden the types of businesses and footfall in Weston’s town centre, and give people fresh reasons to visit our High Street too. It ought to give us a real shot in the arm as we look to bounce back from lockdown”
