John Welcomes Government Cash to Tackle Burglary and Theft

Weston’s MP, John Penrose, has welcomed news that Avon & Somerset Police will receive £400,000 from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund.

The money will be allocated to projects that improve security in areas particularly affected by acquisitive crimes such as burglary, vehicle theft and robbery. This could include changes to the design of alleyways, increased street-lighting, installation of CCTV and neighbourhood watch schemes, for example.

John said: “I’ve spoken to people in my surgeries who have suffered burglaries and it’s a miserable experience that can take a long time to get over. I’m sure locals will remember this being front and centre of the election campaign last year, so it’s good to see that even with everything else going on across the country there’s still that strong focus on reducing crime.”
