John welcomes extra Government cash to support Weston’s fight against Covid-19

Weston’s MP John Penrose has welcomed a commitment of more than £11million to North Somerset to help the council, businesses and community fight the Coronavirus pandemic – significantly more than most other places in the country.

The extra money will be given to help North Somerset Council deal with the extra costs of fighting the pandemic, for things like shielding the most vulnerable residents, getting emergency PPE, getting homeless people safely housed, and fighting domestic abuse.

John said, “It isn’t just costing the Government a lot to fight coronavirus. Local Councils like North Somerset are facing big extra financial pressures too. The extra cash is supposed to tide them through and I’m glad that Ministers have recognised that – as a seaside area with plenty of elderly and vulnerable people – we ought to qualify for more cash than most. It will be sorely needed.”
