Weston’s first night assessment centre for homeless people has officially opened in the town centre.
People gathered to celebrate a landmark occasion after a several years of heavy campaigning to create a centre for the town’s rough sleepers.
Weston MP John Penrose cut the ribbon to open the centre, which will offer 11 beds to people who have found themselves homeless.
The aim of the night centre is to help get men and women off the street and the support they need.
The NAC project, based in St John’s Hall in the Boulevard, is being headed up by Liona Hurst with Barry Edwards and Penny Hynds.
Guests will be let in from 9.30pm and have a place to store their belongings and rest their head until 8.30am, seven days a week.
The centre is still looking for more volunteers to lend a helping hand.
