John Meets Great Western Rail to Discuss Problems

Weston’s MP John Penrose met senior staff at Great Western Rail, including their Managing Director Mark Hopwood, to discuss the recent problems with delayed and overcrowded train services between Weston, Worle and Bristol.

The meeting followed recent figures showing local train services have been getting worse rather than better.

John said: “Mark Hopwood didn’t pull his punches. He apologised to me and other local residents who GWR have been letting down. He told me they’d had big problems with the new train carriages, which arrived late so they couldn’t deliver the roomier, less crowded and more reliable services they’d promised.

“He also said the new kit is now coming on-line, so the promised improvements should happen this autumn instead.

“His promise and the apology are both very welcome, but local people will want actions to match the words. I will keep a very close eye to make sure they do!”
