Staffing problems faced by Weston General Hospital will hopefully ease if a Bristol merger goes ahead.
That is John Penrose MP’s belief after University Hospitals Bristol’s announcement that it wishes to merge with Weston Area Health NHS Trust (WAHT).
He said: “This is a hugely important move. A merger makes hiring staff for Weston hospital far, far easier, so it’s a big step towards solving the overnight closure of Weston’s A&E, and securing the long-term future of our hospital.
“Ambitious young medics will know they can enjoy the high quality of life which working in Weston offers, alongside the professional challenges of working in a Bristol teaching hospital too.
“This is a crucial step in the right direction, but there’s still a long way to go.”
Wells MP James Heappey believes a merger represents a ‘great opportunity’.
He said: “The challenge in Weston for many years has been WAHT has lacked the size to attract staff and to deliver some services.
