John wants to bring patients requiring maternity services back to Weston, not move them away

John has appeared on ITV news to discuss the low number of births at Weston Hospital.

170 babies were born there last year but the NHS says the unit should see around 500 births a year to allow midwives to maintain their clinical expertise.

Dr Mary Backhouse, Chair of North Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group has called the unit “unsustainable”.

During an interview, John told ITV that more should be done to reverse the flow of patients and bring more expectant mothers back to Weston-super-Mare. A video of the interview can be found below:
