Cribbs Expansion Plans ‘Called In’ By Secretary of State After John Raises Concerns

Secretary of State Sajid Javid MP has called in plans to extend Cribbs Causeway, following a letter from Weston’s MP John Penrose arguing it could damage Weston’s regeneration by taking away around 8.3% of trade (£39 million) by 2021 and making the town’s “rebirth harder to achieve”.

Today’s reply from the Minister’s Office explains that central Government only calls in a very few, highly significant applications to be decided in Whitehall, and the decision to do so in this case, and to launch a public enquiry, reflects its importance to the wider economy.

John said: “This isn’t a final decision, but it means that Weston’s voice is being heard loud and clear, and I’m delighted the Minister clearly understands the strength of local concerns about its impact on the wider local economy of places like Weston, and central Bristol too.”
