John Penrose: “Better rural transport ‘vitally important’ for Weston’s villages”

Investing in transport infrastructure in Weston-super-Mare’s surrounding villages is a key issue for the area, John Penrose has said.

On a BBC Radio Bristol election debate programme, John Penrose, Conservative candidate for Weston, Worle and the villages, has said that maintaining and improving transport connections is vital.

On the programme John agreed that in addition to continuing the work on connections into Taunton and Bristol, the villages surrounding the constituency needed strong links too. He explained that: “Junction 21 [M5, Weston-super-Mare] is hugely improved but there are further improvements needed on things like our train service.”

John played a key-role in ensuring that the required work on Junction 21 was carried out – by bringing it to attention to Ministers and supporting the grant application that resulted in it finally being carried out. He has also worked closely with First Great Western during their on-going franchise saga to ensure that the people of Weston, Worle and the villages don’t lose any services (as many predicted we would).
