Penrose hails drop in local crime

Weston MP John Penrose has welcomed news that local crime is falling sharply, and hailed the police who have helped to achieve it.

Latest figures from the independent Office for National Statistics show that crime in Avon and Somerset has fallen by 21% over the last three years, and by 7% for the UK as a whole over the last 12 months.

John Penrose said: ‘Everyone will be delighted that crime is falling steadily, not just in Avon and Somerset but across the rest of the country too. Here in Weston the drop in drugs rehabs has made a big contribution, and these figures have been delivered at the same time as big reforms in the police service are going through as well. Our local police officers can be justly proud of what they’ve achieved. It’s hugely impressive, and particularly reassuring in the wake of tragic events like this week’s discovery of three bodies in our town.’
