Connecting Devon & Somerset, a new partnership of local authorities in charge of bringing faster broadband to our area, is asking local residents to take part in a survey to show the private sector that they need to invest in high-speed internet in Devon and Somerset. Weston MP John Penrose is backing the campaign as its success will be crucial in getting better broadband for businesses and households in Weston and the villages.
John said: “Six months ago, I reported that Devon and Somerset were going to benefit from a massive £31million funding package from the Government aimed at rural areas. The money, as well as extra funding from the local councils, is necessary wherever it’s not financially viable to invest in sparsely populated areas like parts of Somerset. But public cash won’t be enough on its own, so we need the private sector to join in too. And they won’t take part unless they’re sure that their customers – that’s us – would sign up for superfast broadband if they build it.”
That’s why we need everybody to register their interest. If you want superfast broadband in Weston and the villages, you can take part in the online survey and see the plans at http://www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk/ It’s a great way to help local businesses and residents take part in tomorrow’s knowledge economy.”
