John Penrose welcomed the announcement by Big Local (part of the Big Lottery Fund) today that Worle has been chosen to receive a £1 million investment over ten years. This is part of a £200 million grant which will be administered by a newly created organisation, the Local Trust. Projects eligible for funding could include anything from creating new community facilities to starting up training and employment schemes, tackling anti-social behaviour, or providing more activities for young people.
John said: “This is fantastic news because, rather than have bureaucrats in offices deciding which projects should receive funding, local residents will be able to decide how the money should be spent to help improve their local community. It could be a community café, a neighbourhood watch or a sports club for example.
“The money has also been awarded to specific areas like Worle because it’s been recognised that they had difficulty in the past in getting support and funding - from the Lottery and elsewhere – and were too often overlooked. Thanks to the Big Local fund, they’re now given an opportunity to catch up.
“Both individuals and community groups will be invited to take part by Local Trust representatives and anyone wishing to find out more about this in the meantime can get in touch via their website: http://www.localtrust.org.uk”.
