Weston's MP has called for the railway line between the town and Bristol to be electrified after the Government announced it would delay electrifying the line between Bristol and London.
John Penrose said the Bristol decision, which was announced earlier this month, was bitterly disappointing.
He urged Rail Minister Paul Maynard to consider electrifying the Weston line, as he claimed it would improve journey times and reliability.
Mr Penrose said: "We need to know if there's a case for reassessing whether local train services, including the Weston to Bristol line, should be included in the electrification project.
"It would make journeys quicker, greener, most reliable and less crowded.
"Therefore, I have asked the Minister for cost-benefit ratios of the delayed projects, so we can compare them to electrifying the local line.
"It could strengthen out argument enormously."
